When we waste water?

Today is March 22

Today is World Water Day!

The theme is around water and wastewater....that we need to conserve water and make better use of waste water

Water is sensitive to me, I grew up in the big city, but soon many estates came around ours and poof, the taps went dry. This started a long period of having water that comes maybe once a week, and drips out at night, so we learnt the art of listening for water. And as soon as the water came, we jumped out of bed (no matter and time) and began washing and cleaning and storing water till morning, when the taps went dry again.

The estate had one house that had access to army water....and so when the massive water bowser came to fill their big tanks, we benefitted from the balance....and since the pipe was big, having a basin was futile since the pressure was too high and all the water would splash out. So we brought out the movable tank and once it was filled up, we filled up smaller basins and ferried the precious commodity home!! waaaaaaaa

Then I moved to a boarding school and as luck would have it, the big tank that supplied the school had a problem and so that was my introduction to fetching water from a river > we had to make several trips, for the kitchen using huge metalic sufurias, for a teacher who can reroute you as you make your way back to the school and finally for self! And I tell you God was on our side, because that basin of water was the drinking water as well

So this poster rings so true for me

Fast forward to college days and still home didnt have constant water supply, and so during trips to town center, it was very emotional for me seeing the verandah at KENCOM being washed with water from a massive pipe and flowing freely and am like, wish we had that kind of water at home! #sigh

Of course working in ASAL areas made me have a whole other appreciation for water....the sight of the dry earth for miles and miles is enough for someone to know that once they get water, they need to use it carefully!

So this water day, spare a thought for those who dont have access to clean water...and think twice before you waste water please....

Common girl!! Drink some water!!

Common girl!! Drink some water!!

Thats what i have to keep telling myself all the time

Kwanza in this yoyo weather!!!

You see, I always maintain that I was a normal water drinker, up until I went to school in Limuru and the mere thought of having to take water made me have no thirst, at all. The place was frozen half the time (ok, i exaggerate) and cant even jog my memory of when and how gals drank water in school - maybe we all didnt take any water!!

Anyways, this unhealthy habit has stuck with me

I cant just get myself to drink the recommended 2litres of water, at most 250ml to wash down lunch and another to wash down dinner!! Various articles recommend that one need to take 2 glasses when they wake up!! 2 whole glasses.....aii.....how is that possible!!

Given that i know myself, I got me this water bottle...so that i fill it with water and place it right infront of me so that am compelled to sip the water until i finish....at least one for a start!!

So here goes!!

Hope the results are clear skin and bright smile :)

Heri kuwa na maji kuliko kuwa na stima!!

These last weeks have been challenging........

All of a sudden the taps run dry, no warning, and the way I am now used to having water flowing from the tap...aiii

You see this feeling is deep within me from those days growing up in Langata and having no water for days on end...haki even saying that Langata had a perennial water problem is an understatement!! Where didnt we fetch water from!! aii...am sure at some point the water we had was mixed with sewage...I kid you not!! So when i was moving out of home to my own space, my requirements were very simple....I need a place which has water flowing from the tap!!! and so i ended up in South B area where i stayed for over 10 years

So my current water situation brings back very unpleasant memories. Memories of taking 'passport' shower in the morning and getting into town and the cleaners at KenCom are cleaning the verandah with buckets and buckets of water ...how i wish i could just enter the bank and take a good shower (assuming of course they have showers in there LOL!!)

Anyways, so now I have to ponder my next move...its the holidays, I have guests over....and I have no water...aii...Serkal Saidia!!!!
