Filling the mind...

I recently decided that I need to fill my mind with different ideas that would of course, enrich my thinking

So I have placed a reminder on my phone for the Sisterhood series that happens every 1st Tuesday of the month and conveniently at All Saints - very central!!

April 5th found me seated in the auditorium listening to Hellen Mtawali - never heard her live before!! waaaa what a voice!! very gifted that one!!

The topic of the day was Mother-Daughter relationships - sounded interesting for me so, and I must say it was not a waste of my time, and thankfully I didnt give up given the pouring rain. The presenter was the author of the book  - Celebrating Friendships among Women  - Margery Kabuya - very interesting talk!

My take home was the need to articulate (NGO-ese language tihihihi)
the values that you want respected in the home - the negotiables and the non negotiables. Action for me was that I will rally all to have a prayer for #TeamSamson so that the kids know and internalise that values like respect, honour, faith, honesty etc are important in our home

#inspired!

Easter season

I love Easter.........

So much joy and happiness around!!!

and 4 straight days after a long wait for a public holiday!!

Flashback to my single days and Easter spelt chance to get out of the city. My sister once worked in Mombasa so this was destination once the break started; I literally went to Mombasa almost every weekend when she was there!! such fun times!!

Now Easter is either in Kisumu or in Nairobi - better when there is minimum travel since the entire Nairobi seems to shift base during Easter. This year Easter falls at a time when schools are not closed yet...so we have only 4 days to pack in as much fun as possible

Happy and Blessed Easter!!

Cousins!

Cousins are an important part of family. Growing up we were the oldest among our cousins so didn't quite relate to them, and most lived in other towns anyway, so was physically not possible to meet often. I often envied people who can could relate with their cousins like brothers and sisters - an extended family to every sence of the word.

Was reminded of this today when visiting my brother and his family. We were having a lovely Sunday late afternoon unplanned tea and the way our kids quickly mingled reminded us that we really have a responsibility to nurture the bond!!

That we immediately agreed on!!

Family Novena - Theme - THE KEY THAT OPENS

Radio waumini is for the 3rd time organising a family novena

What is unique about this one is that they have laid out all the prayer intentions - and the theme is apt - The Key That Opens

inspired by Isaiah 22:22
I will give him the key to the house of David--the highest position in the royal court. When he opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them

This novena we are praying for doors to be open and for some doors to be shut forever

More information can be found on https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=10153953424619853&id=180089754852

The novena will be prayed for the next 9 months! make a commitment!

Family

Its Christmas time....time when families get together...

Family...ehh!!!

what would it be if we didnt have a good mix of family members; that is the spice of life!

Those that you can trust
Those that you cant trust
Those that you trust only with certain aspects
Those that second guess you all the time!
Those that cheer you on no matter what!
Those that assume you are always well put together
Those that you can confide in during the valley moments
Those that feel entitled to what you have
Those that pull their own weight
Those that organise a great get together
Those that cant plan anything to save their lives!
Those that are family magnets
Thsoe that are family repellants!
Those that can cook a mean meal
Those that cant even boil water, but who cares?
Those that cant let an offer of a night out go
Those that preach and preach and appear like their more spiritually put together
Those that have joined the family recently and brought in a whole set of issues
Those that remember you only when they are in trouble
Those that check on you every so often, bless them!
Those that remember important dates and wish you well
Those that only remember dates that relate to them! (LOL)
Those that treat children around like the precious angels they are
Those that dont seem to know kuna children in the family that need close role models!
The list is endless

Family is family, no matter what they are made of

we love the good, bear with the bad and tolerate the ugly aspects

Cheers to family!
